“I wonder where Eunhyuk and Donghae are. They’re usually not this late.” Sungmin glanced at his watch.
Him, Ryeowook, and Leeteuk had been waiting under the tree for a few minutes.
“OMG! Is that Eunhyuk?”
All three turned to look to see Eunhyuk slowly making his way towards them on crutches.
“Hyukkie, what happened? Where’s Hae?”
“I don’t know. There was no answer when I stopped by his house.”
“Okay…that’s weird but seriously, what happened? You were fine yesterday when we left you…” Realization dawned on Sungmin. “OMG! Don’t tell me…”
Eunhyuk sighed. “Donghae was playing on the monkey bars. He tried to stand up on them and his foot slipped.”
“And you tried to catch him but he ended up crushing you?”
“Yeah, something like that…”
“Aww, my poor baby. Do you need any help?”
“Uh no, I’m fine. I just sprained my foot. I’ll heal soon. Come on, let’s get to class.” Eunhyuk walked away, immediately followed by a hovering Leeteuk.
Sungmin and Ryeowook took their own pace walking to class. Along the way, Ryeowook couldn’t help noticing people looking at him. It made him a little uncomfortable since he wasn’t used to being stared at unless singing but he decided to ignore it and just smile at everyone who looked at him.
People were a little surprised he smiled back. Almost everyone by now had heard o the new boy who could sing like Kyuhyun and Yesung. They expected him to be just like those two: cold and aloof and a little mysterious. They were surprised he was just the opposite.
Instead of ignoring or glaring when people stared, he smiled back. He was small and cute, was bright and happy through a little shy in their eyes.
Ryeowook smiled brightly when he noticed a familiar figure walking in front of him. “Hankyung hyung!”
Hankyung turned around just in time to catch Ryeowook. “Ryeowook-ah, how are you?”
Hankyung smiled, hugged Ryeowook, and kept him close.
“I’m good, I’m good. You still coming over after school?”
“Sure, of course. Been craving your cooking since yesterday.”
Ryeowook laughed. “That’s good. We’ll, I’ll talk to you later. Got class.”
Ryeowook gave Hankyung another hug before walking back to Sungmin.
“What’s gotten into you, Wookie?”
“I don’t know. It feels like a weight has been lifted off my chest. I don’t have to hide how I am I guess?”
Sungmin laughed. “Aww, you’re so adorable. I’m so glad Hyukkie bumped into you or I wouldn’t be one of your best friends.”
“Who says you are?”
Sungmin gaped at him. Ryeowook had such a cheeky smile on his face. “OMG! Who are you and what have you done to my baby.”
“Nothing. Just not going to hide anymore. You get to enjoy all of me instead of a part. Aren’t you happy your baby’s opening up and growing so fast? It’s only been 3 days. Consider yourself lucky. I don’t open up that easily.” Ryeowook smiled, gave Sungmin a hug, and took his seat just as the professor walked in.
Kyuhyun couldn’t stop his eyes from drifting over to the side to a certain couple.
Your boy seems different today.
Find out for yourself. I’m not your messenger boy.
See for yourself, hyung.
Yesung’s eyes widened at the pic Kibum sent him.
Ryeowook smiled and laughed as he packed up his things. He waved to those leaving and waited for Sungmin to finish.
“Come on, let’s go.” Ryeowook hooked arms with Sungmin and led him out of the classroom just to bump into Yesung and Kyuhyun.
Yesung was slightly blinded and dazed by Ryeowook’s smile. Before he could fully register it, the two had moved off to their next class.
“Told you he was different. Oh, you should probably close your mouth. You look more like an idiot that way.” Kyuhyun laughed and went to his next class before Yesung could do anything to him.
All throughout his next classes, all the students couldn’t help noticing the changes in the new student Kim Ryeowook. He was so happy and bubbly it spread to everyone around him.
Yesung had trouble concentrating on the lab in science that he almost caused an accident if Kibum didn’t catch him.
By the time lunch came around, almost all the students and teachers were in love with Ryeowook.
Ryeowook smiled as he walked into the cafeteria with Eunhyuk. He waved at Hankyung across the room before taking a seat next to Sungmin who was animatedly telling Leeteuk about what had happened this morning with Ryeowook and Kyuhyun.
“Hello Teukie hyung.”
“Hello. How are you doing?”
“Good. How are you guys?”
“Kyuhyun’s just annoying Sungmin and I’m having fun working in the office.”
“Yeah ‘cause he gets all the good gossip.”
“Like how a certain Kim Ryeowook has captivated the whole school.”
Ryeowook blushed as Sungmin, Leeteuk, and Eunhyuk looked at him. “Well I-I-“
“Uh excuse me.” The four of them turned to see a small group of girls standing behind him. “Uh Ryeowook oppa…?”
“Yes?” He smiled brightly at them.
“Uh…we wanted to give you this.” One of the girls handed Ryeowook a card and box.
Sungmin, Eunhyuk, and Leeteuk watched as Ryeowook opened the card.
Dear Ryeowook oppa, here is your first present from your fanclub.
The three stared as Ryeowook opened up the box. Inside was a small pile of little notes and a couple small gifts. There were also a couple of quick drawings.
“OMG! You really do have the whole school captivated. It took Kyuhyun and Yesung at least a week each to get their fanclubs.”
“Aww, look at this.” Sungmin pulled out a cute little plush toy. “It’s so cute.”
“Hey, hey, hey. Don’t touch that. It’s Ryeowook’s.”
“Oh no, it’s fine. But I think it’s time to go soon so if you could…”
“Thank you.” Ryeowook smiled and grabbed his things before dashing away.
Ryeowook was surprised to find that he was the first one there. He looked around, wondering if there was anyone hiding, before taking a seat in front of the piano. He gently placed his hands on the keys and began to play a song.
“Oh come on, Yesung. Just admit it already. You like him. It’s so obvious.”
“No, it isn’t and no, I don’t like him.”
“Oh come on, you should’ve seen your face at lunch when those girls gave him that present.”
“Whatever.” Yesung walked away.
“Do you hear that?”
The two listened for a moment before rushing to the music room. Already, there was a group of girls surrounding the doors.
The girls all gasped and moved aside, letting Kyuhyun and Yesung pass. The two entered and stopped in front of the doorway.
Ryeowook was absorbed in playing his song and singing. They could feel the emotions he put into the song.
Yesung felt his heart ache as a tear slipped down Ryeowook’s cheek.
Ryeowook finished his song and stared at the piano, waiting for his emotions to calm down.
A clap drew his attention towards the door.
“Oh, I’m sorry. I didn’t realize you guys were here.” He scrambled away from the piano and bowed in apology.
“Oh, you don’t need to do that. Sorry for being late but you play beautifully.”
“Oh thank you. Uh…should we practice?”
“Of course.” Kyuhyun smiled and sat in front of the piano.
The three practiced for the next hour.
“Alright, I guess that’s it for now.”
“Okay. Bye.” Ryeowook bowed. “I’ll see you tomorrow.”
He smiled and left.
Ryeowook knocked on the door of his music composition teacher’s office.
Ryeowook walked in and took a seat in the chair.
“No, in front of the piano. Play that song.”
“Uh…there’s no melody.”
“Make it up.”
“Uh…okay.” Ryeowook studied the harmony for a few minutes. He placed the music sheets down, took a deep breath, and placed his hands on the keys.
The music teacher smiled as he listened to Ryeowook play. “Alright, stop and write it down.”
“Do you not remember?”
“Uh no, I just don’t have a pencil.”
“Use a pen. Here.”
“Oh thank you.” Ryeowook blushed and quickly and quietly wrote down all the notes he could remember.
“Alright, now play what you wrote.”
The teacher kept a straight face as he listened to Ryeowook play. “Alright, your assignment is to replay what you first played. I expect you to complete it in a week. So I’ll see you next week, same time, same day. You may go.”
Ryeowook went to Piano and sat down at a random piano. He decided to warm up with a few scales before going into a song. He moved from song to song before playing what he had played before in his music composition teacher’s office. He pulled out the music and made some changes before playing it again. He frowned and began playing something else before flowing back into that same song.
For the next hour, he did the same routine, switching back and forth between songs until he was able to write down note for note the song he had played earlier. He smiled as he looked at his accomplished work. He put the sheets away and glanced at his phone.
“OMG!” He quickly packed his things, grabbed his things, and rushed out the room without saying bye to Sungmin.
Hankyung was waiting by the front gate, glancing at his watch. He smiled as he saw Ryeowook running to meet him. “Whoa, slow down, Wookie. No rush.”
“H-h-h-hi Hankyung hyung. S-s-sorry I’m late. Lost track of time.”
“Playing the piano or singing?”
“You know for a singer, you have low endurance.”
“You know I don’t exercise.”
“I know, I know. I’m just teasing. So shall we go?”
“Yeah, come on.” Ryeowook smiled and grabbed Hankyung’s hand, dragging him away.
“Umma, I’m home and guess who I brought home?” He pulled Hankyung into the kitchen.
“Hello Mrs. Kim, how are you?”
“I’m good, I’m good but how are you? I haven’t seen you for three years. You’ve gotten so tall and handsome.”
“Thank you, Mrs. Kim.”
“Here, why don’t we go into the living room and talk while Ryeowook prepares dinner?”
“Alright, call if you need any help.”
Ryeowook smiled as he shooed them out of the kitchen. He clapped his hands and turned his music on and got to work.
After a half hour, everything was ready.
“Alright, dinner’s ready.” Ryeowook turned off the music and smiled as his parents and Hankyung came in.
“Wow, this looks great, sweetie.”
“My favorites. You remembered?”
Ryeowook blushed a little. “I never forget someone’s favorite dish. I tweaked it a little. Hope you don’t mind.”
“Alright, let me see.” Hankyung took a bite and chewed for a while before swallowing.
Ryeowook didn’t realize he was so nervous until Hankyung gave him a smile.
“Wow…it tastes even better now.”
“Yes, sweetie. It tastes wonderful.”
Ryeowook smiled. “Thanks.” He picked up his chopsticks and dug in.
Hankyung smiled as he waved goodbye to Ryeowook and his family.
“You sure you don’t want to stay over?”
“Oh no, I’m fine going home by myself. I’ll see you tomorrow, Wookie.”
“Bye.” Ryeowook smiled and waved, waiting for Hankyung to leave his sight before closing the door. He went into the kitchen to see him mom packing leftovers and cleaning up.
Since she had taken care of most of the work, Ryeowook went to his room to begin his homework. He checked his phone and saw he had a text.
Hey, Wookie. Mind if we do hw together? I’m having some trouble.
Sure, come over. Have you eaten yet?
Ryeowook heard a knock and went out ot open the door. His eyes widened when he saw Sungmin, Eunhyuk, and Leeteuk holding a reluctant Donghae.
“Hyung? What are you doing here?”
“And to see your place.”
“May we come in?”
“Oh right.” Ryeowook moved away towards the kitchen. “Umma, I have some friends over.”
His mom came out with a smile. “Oh hello there. I remember Sungmin but the other three…?”
“This is Eunhyuk, Donghae, and Leeteuk.”
“My real name is Jungsu but people like to call Leeteuk.”
“Oh okay. Have you boys eaten yet?”
“Yes.” Leeteuk looked pointedly at Eunhyuk.
“Oh, well if you’re hungry, we have some leftovers. Oh my goodness, what happened to your leg?” Donghae flushed a bright red while Eunhyuk thought of something to say.
“Oh, oh, come in. Sit down. Would you like some food? Poor baby. Make yourself comfortable.” Ryeowook’s mom busied herself, fussing over Eunhyuk and the others.
Eunhyuk smiled as a bowl of food was placed in front of him.
The other three just watched as he dug in.
“Uh…I’ll go get my stuff and we can work in the kitchen, alright?”
“Uh why don’t we go to your room and leave Hyukkie with his food?”
“Oh…uh…okay. Follow me.” The three followed Ryeowook down the hall to his room. “Uh make yourselves comfortable I guess while I get drinks and snacks for us.”
“Oh don’t bother. We need to talk then catch Hae up on what he missed.”
“What about Hyukkie hyung? Shouldn’t he be here too?”
“Not yet. Besides, he’s occupied with food.”
“And your mother.”
“So he’ll be fine. Besides, what we’re going to talk about involves him and right now we don’t want him to hear.”
“Alright, Donghae, tell them why you missed school.”
“Uh well…yesterday I was playing on the monkey bars and I tried to stand up but my foot slipped and then –“
“Hey, are we going to start our homework yet?” Eunhyuk smiled as everyone as he peeked into the room.
“Sure.” Sungmin smiled at Eunhyuk before giving Donghae a look. “We’ll finish this later.”
Donghae let out a sigh. He wasn’t ready to tell the others yet.
The five of them spent the next two hours doing homework.
Ryeowook noticed how Eunhyuk and Donghae barely interacted. He saw the looks they gave each other when no one was looking. He saw the blush when they accidentally made eye contact.
After watching the two for a while, Ryeowook couldn’t stand it. He didn’t want any more weirdness or problems in school (and it was only the third day for him).
“Okay, can I be blunt here?”
The other four looked at him surprised.
“Thank you.” Ryeowook smiled. “How long have you liked each other, Eunhyuk, Donghae?”
“What?!? You guys like each other?”
“A while now.”
“Okay, so why haven’t you done anything yet?”
“Because of that guy over there.” Eunhyuk pointed at Donghae.
“What do you mean?”
“He’s oblivious. Every time I planned to confess, something came up so I stopped trying. And then the monkey bars incident happened and now that boy avoided me.”
“That’s because our kiss confused me.” Donghae covered his mouth in surprise when he realized what he said.
“You guys kissed?!?!”
Donghae blushed. “Uh…when I fell…and Hyukkie caught me…we uh…accidentally kissed.”
“And let me guess…you ran away after that.”
“No, I helped Hyukkie get to a doctor before running away.”
The three shook their heads.
“Okay…so where do we go from here?”
“Do you two like – no wait, let me rephrase that. Do you two love each other?”
“What?!? How-how can you just ask that? I-I-“
Everyone turned to stare at Eunhyuk.
“I love you, Hae. I have since I first danced with you. The way you moved your body I-“ Eunhyuk stopped and blushed when he noticed everyone staring at him.
“Uh…sorry…I uh would leave if I wasn’t crippled…” Eunhyuk gave a nervous laugh and looked down.
The others turned to look at Donghae who just sat there with a dazed expression.
“Hae? Hae?” Leeteuk waved his hand in front of Donghae’s face. “Donghae? Donghae!”
Leeteuk sighed. “Have you been paying attention at all?”
“Yeah. Hyukkie loves me and I love him too.” Donghae smiled and went around the group to carefully sit on Eunhyuk’s lap. He tipped his face up to his and gently placed his lips over his.
“Aww, they’re so cute.”
“Finally, they’re together. Now I can stop dealing with Donghae’s confused whining and Eunhyuk’s whining. Thank you, Ryeowook. Without your help, I don’t know how long it would’ve taken them to realize their feelings. Though I wish their confessioncould have been more romantic.”
“Oh don’t worry about that, Teukie. Just be happy they’re together. Hey, hey, hey you two. If you’re going to do that, get a room.”
Leeteuk’s eyes widened as he looked at the Eunhae couple. “No, no, no. My babies are too young to be doing that.”
Leeteuk came over and pulled Donghae off Eunhyuk with amazing strength. “How dare you corrupt my baby?”
“Uh which baby are you talking to? Because if you want to know who’s more perverted, it’s the one you’re holding. You have no idea how perverted he is.”
“And you’re not? You have two hard drives full of porn.”
Eunhyuk blushed as Donghae grinned. Leeteuk gasped and let go of Donghae who immediately went back to Eunhyuk, clinging to him.
“Teukie hyung, are you okay?”
“Uh…uh yeah…I-I just need some air.”
Leeteuk walked out of Ryeowook’s room into their living room. He sat on the couch and let his thoughts take over while he tried to catch his breath. He looked up when the door opened and saw a young man walk in.
“Auntie, Uncle, Wookie, I’m here.” He turned his head and saw Leeteuk sitting on the couch.
“Who are you? You’re cute.” He gave Leeteuk a wink, causing him to blush.
Ryeowook and his parents came out of their room to look for the source of the commotion.
“Kangin hyung!” Ryeowook ran and gave Kangin a big hug.
“Hey Wookie, how’ve you been?”
“I’m good. Oh, let me introduce you to my friends. This is Eunhyuk, Donghae, and Sungmin,” pointing to the three behind him. “And the one on the couch is Leeteuk.”
“Eunhyuk, Donghae, Sungmin. Leeteuk.” Kangin’s eyes lingered and twinkled when he looked at Leeteuk.
Leeteuk unconsciously shivered under his gaze and the way he said his name gave him chills.
“So what are your friends doing here? Isn’t it late?”
“We’re doing homework.”
“Oh alright. How about we go into the kitchen and leave Ryeowook and his friends alone to do homework?”
“Sure, Kangin dear.”
Kangin smiled as he watched Ryeowook and his friends go back to his room. He made sure to brush a hand against Leeteuk’s arm when he walked past.
Leeteuk froze for a moment before he composed himself and went into Ryeowook’s room, shutting the door after him.
Kangin chuckled before joining his aunt and uncle in the kitchen.
