Previous Chapters: 1
Ryeowook woke up to his mother’s gentle shaking.
“Sweetie, wake up. It’s time for school.”
“Oh no…” Ryeowook got out of bed and jumped in the shower. After a quick rinse, he dried himself off and put his uniform on. He dried his hair before going to the kitchen.
His mom already made breakfast for him. He was just sitting down to enjoy it when the doorbell rang. His father answered the door.
“Hi, my name is Lee Sungmin. I’m a friend of Ryeowook’s. I’m here to walk to school with him.”
“Oh, please come in. Ryeowook’s in the kitchen. Have you eaten anything yet? You’re welcome to join him.”
“Thank you but I already ate. Hi Ryeowook, ready to go to school?”
“Sure, just let me have a quick bite then we can go.” Ryeowook ate a spoonful of rice, a piece of kimchi, and a sip of water. “Alright, let’s go.”
Ryeowook breezed past a stunned Sungmin. He made it to the elevator when he realized Sungmin wasn’t behind him. He went back and found Sungmin in the exact same spot he left him. He rolled his eyes, grabbed Sungmin’s wrist, and dragged him out of the building. Only when they were on the subway going towards school did Sungmin regain his senses back.
“I can’t believe it, that’s all you eat? How can you survive? No wonder you’re so skinny. I need to talk to Teukie. We will make sure you’re living healthy. You will eat right. Now come on, let’s go meet with the others.” Sungmin grabbed Ryeowook’s hand and pulled him towards the school.
They walked over to the side of the school and sat under a tree. Donghae and Eunhyuk came a few minutes after. Not even a second after Leeteuk came did Sungmin burst with his news.
“Our baby is starving himself.”
“What?!?!? No, Ryeowook, you can’t do that. We’re going to make you eat. Now come on, let’s get to class. Sorry, we didn’t get to talk much. Sungmin, take Ryeowook to class. I’ll see you guys later.” Leeteuk smiled and waved, rushing off to the office.
Eunhyuk and Donghae waved, going off to their separate classes. Sungmin took Ryeowook to their math class. They took a seat by the window.
“Just to let you know, this class is really boring.”
“I figured since it’s math.”
Sungmin smiled and pulled out a notebook and began doodling. Ryeowook looked around the classroom. His eyes widened when he saw Kyuhyun sitting in the back next to another student with a bored expression on his face. He quickly turned around before they could notice him. He hoped they wouldn't realize they were in the same class but that idea was shot to hell when the professor came in and had Ryeowook formally introduce himself to the whole class.
As soon as it was over, he quickly walked to his seat and kept his head down for the entire class. Sungmin tried his best to get Ryeowook’s attention but this was giving him some unwanted attention so he stopped. He’d get to talk to Ryeowook later.
Kyuhyun stared at the board, not paying attention. He glanced to his left and let out a small smile. He pulled out his phone and sent a quick text.
Yesung felt his phone vibrate. He pulled it out and read the text.
Ur boy is in my class. He looks cute today
Yesung frowned and put his phone away. He couldn’t wait until class ended.
As soon as the bell rang, Ryeowook rushed out of class with Sungmin following close behind.
Ryeowook paused and stood on the side, waiting for Sungmin.
“Why’d you rush off? What happened in class?”
“Kyuhyun-ssi is in that class.”
“Yeah, I know but what does that have to – oh…” It suddenly dawned on Sungmin and he couldn’t stop himself from smiling and hugging Ryeowook. “Aww, you’re so cute. You’re such a good baby, listening to our advice.”
“Sungmin, what are you doing to our baby?”
“Oh hey, Donghae. I’m just giving him some love. He’s listening to our advice.”
“The advice about those two guys.”
“Oh…” Donghae smiled and joined the hug. “You’re so adorable, Wookie. Such a good boy, actually listening to us.”
“Uh excuse me but shouldn’t you guys be getting to class?”
The three turned their heads to see Kyuhyun looking at them. Donghae’s eyes widened and he quickly went into their classroom. Kyuhyun looked at Sungmin who stared back.
Kyuhyun grinned and brushed past, making sure to brush against Sungmin. Sungmin jumped away like he’d been scalded.
Ryeowook looked past where Kyuhyun had been and locked eyes with Yesung. His eyes widened and a slight blush rose to his cheeks. He quickly looked down and went into the classroom, closely followed by Sungmin.
The professor made him stand up front and introduce himself in English before he could take a seat. He quickly took the empty seat between Donghae and Sungmin and kept his head down the entire class period. Donghae and Sungmin were worried about Ryeowook; he was just so quiet and kept to himself.
Kyuhyun looked over at the trio. He grinned, remembering what had happened earlier. His eyes roamed over a certain form, lots of different ideas popping into his head.
Yesung pulled out his phone when he felt it vibrate again.
Ur boy’s acting weird, cute but weird. Did u do something to him? U know this will affect practice later.
Weird how? I didn’t do anything. Just looked @ him. Don’t worry, practice will be fine.
Kyuhyun smiled and put away his phone just in time as the teacher called on him to translate the sentence into English.
As soon as the bell rang, Ryeowook quickly packed up his things and bolted out the door except Donghae and Sungmin had a grip on his arm, stopping him.
“Oh no no no, we’re not letting you run off again. You will wait with us until everyone has left and then we’ll leave.”
Someone brushed against Sungmin, causing him to jump a little. He turned to glare at the person only to see Kyuhyun grinning at him. Kyuhyun just kept grinning as he left the classroom.
Once everyone had left, the trio left, Donghae dragging Ryeowook towards their science class while Sungmin moved off to his Korean class.
Donghae dragged Ryeowook to the seat next to him and began happily chatting away.
When the professor came in, he had Ryeowook introduce himself in front of the class.
Ryeowook shyly stood at the front of the class and quickly and quietly went through his intro. He happened to glance around the room as he made his way back to his seat and what he saw caused his eyes to widen.
Yesung was sitting in the back next to the same kid Kyuhyun had been sitting next to. He was also staring at him, making him turn his head away and color to stain his cheeks.
He kept his gaze down the entire class period. Donghae tried to get Ryeowook’s attention but he kept getting ignored, making him pout.
All throughout class, Yesung couldn’t stop stealing glances at the boy.
Kyuhyun was right. He does look cute today but I don’t get what he means by acting weird. He’s just shy, which is so adorable. I just wish he’d look up so I can see his face
When their eyes had met earlier, he could feel his heart rate accelerating. He’d look so adorable blushing.
Yesung was so caught up in his thoughts he missed the look Kibum shot him.
You were right. Keeps looking @ him. So obvious he likes him.
Kyuhyun smiled as he read Kibum’s text.
Yay. I have two people to tease now.
He put his phone away and grinned, looking to his left.
Ryeowook felt himself trapped as he tried to leave class the instant the bell rang.
“Oh no no no. You’re not running off. Exactly why were you ignoring me in class?”
“I-I wasn’t…I-I was just…” Ryeowook looked up to see Yesung looking at him. He blushed and ran out, Donghae quickly following.
Ryeowook bumped into someone, dropping his books. “Oh I’m sorry I – Hankyung hyung?”
“Wookie? OMG, it is you.” Hankyung smiled and gave Ryeowook a hug to the confusion of the little crowd around them (Donghae, Eunhyuk, Sungmin, and Yesung and Kyuhyun off to the side). “How’ve you been?”
“Good, good. I didn’t know you went here.”
“Neither did I.”
“I just got here.”
“Oh, you’re a new student? No wonder I never saw you before. How long has it been?”
“About 3 years.”
“Oh right…right. Well, we should get to class but maybe we can talk during lunch?”
“Sure, I’ll be on the second floor.”
The two hugged and moved off to their respective classes.
Donghae and Eunhyuk hurried after Ryeowook, just in time for class.
Ryeowook was in a better mood throughout class that Donghae and Eunhyuk couldn’t ignore it. They either blamed it on that guy Ryeowook had bumped into or the fact that Kyuhyun, Yesung, and Kibum weren’t in this class.
”So how come you were upset earlier?”
“What are you talking about?”
“Just now, before class. You came in with a frown.”
”Don’t I always?”
“No, you normally have a blank, bored, or slightly angry expression. This is a legit frown like you’re jealous of someone.”
“What are you talking about? I am not jealous.”
“Alright then. So do you actually want to start on the assignment?”
The professor smiled as she walked past the two conversing in English and doing the assignment. She didn’t understand what they were saying but only that they were speaking in pretty fluent English.
As soon as the bell rang, Donghae and Eunhyuk barely had time to react as they watched Ryeowook rush out of the classroom.
Ryeowook quickly made his way to the cafeteria. He looked around and saw Hankyung waving at him. He rushed over and gave Hankyung a hug. “Hankyung hyung, how are you?”
“I’m good. Are you going to eat?”
“Oh no, it’s fine.”
“Well you should eat something. Here, I made some extra food. Remember this?”
Ryeowook smiled. “Of course. It was one of the first things we learned to make.”
“Yep. I just changed the recipe a bit. Try it now.”
Ryeowook took a bite and smiled as he chewed. “Mmm…tastes even better.”
“So how are your cooking skills?”
“They’ve gotten better. I make dinner at least twice a week when my mom lets me. Still remember all those recipes?”
“How could I forget?”
The two spent the whole lunch period catching up. They made plans for Hankyung to come over and have dinner tomorrow night.
“So what electives do you have?”
“Dancing and singing. Too bad don’t have a cooking class. Would’ve taken that too.”
The two laughed.
“But hey, I know of this cooking class we could take together. It was recommended by our teacher.”
“Really? Okay, sure. That might be fun. When is it?”
“Uh I forget but I an give you the details if you give me your number. Did you change it?”
“Yeah, when we moved.”
The two exchanged numbers, cleaned up, and went to their respective classes.
Ryeowook nervously made his way towards his singing class. He paused in front of the double doors and took a deep breath before walking in.
Kyuhyun was seated at he piano again but this time, Yesung was standing next to him.
The two turned to look at him as he walked towards them.
“Hello Ryeowook. Ready to practice?”
Ryeowook gave a polite smile. “Yes.”
Kyuhyun smiled. “Good. Here’s the song we’ll be practicing.”
Ryeowook’s eyes lit up as he looked at the sheet music Kyuhyun handed him. “We’re going to be singing this?”
“That’s one of the songs, yes. Why?”
“Oh, no reason. So shall we start?”
“Yeah. First, let’s warm up.”
The three ran through their scales and tested their range before beginning the song. They each took a few minutes to look over the music, memorizing notes and lyrics.
Kyuhyun played the starting note then nodded his head, signaling to start. Ryeowook began, followed by Yesung, then Kyuhyun.
The trio sang through the song several times over the last hour.
“Alright, that’s all for today.”
Ryeowook smiled and bowed before leaving the room. He sighed right outside the doors before walking to his piano class. He glanced at his watch and gasped. He only had a couple minutes to go meet his music composition teacher.
“I’m sorry. I’m late. I –“
“Have a seat.”
Ryeowook quickly sat down next to the teacher. “Play your scales.”
Ryeowook looked around. “Uh…with what?”
“The piano.” He pointed to the keyboard in front of him.
Ryeowook flushed an embarrassing pink before he moved in front of it and began his scales.
When he finished, he turned to see his teacher had disappeared. On his chair was his notebook with a note stuck to the front.
Practice your scales everyday. They’re essential for a music composer. I looked through your notebook and made notes here and there. Come back tomorrow at 3.
The minute Ryeowook walked into his piano class he was dragged back out. He glanced over his shoulder to see Sungmin dragging him towards the dance room.
“Sungmin, what’s going on?”
Ryeowook shut his mouth and pouted.
The two entered where Sungmin let go of Ryeowook to talk to Donghae and Eunhyuk. After a couple of minutes, they grabbed their things and walked over.
“Alright, let’s go.”
The four left school to make their way towards a local café. They settled somewhere in the back away from the others in the café.
“Okay, who first: Sungmin or Ryeowook?”
“Ryeowook would be easier.”
The three turned to look at Ryeowook.
“So spill Ryeowook. Who was that guy? You guys seemed close.”
“What? Oh, you mean Hankyung hyung. Yeah, we’re close. We went to the same cooking school a few years ago. His work station was right next to mine. We’d help each other out and hung out a lot. But we lost contact once school ended. It’s great seeing him again. I now have another friend besides you three and Leeteuk.” Ryeowook smiled brightly.
“Aww, that’s good. You were in such a bad mood earlier.”
“Yeah, why were you acting strange and shy this morning?”
“Oh…uh…well I-I-I don’t know. I guess uh…it was because it was my first day in class?”
“Really? ‘Cause I could’ve sworn it was because of our warning about Kyuhyun and Yesung.”
Ryeowook flushed a light pink. “Uh…maybe because of that too.”
“Aww, you’re so cute, Wookie.”
“And on that note, Sungmin…?”
The three turned to look at Sungmin who looked slightly pink.
“It’s even worse this year. I have all my general classes with Kyuhyun.”
“Aww, poor baby. Are you gonna be okay? Can you change?”
“I tried but they wouldn’t let me for some reason.”
“Aww…so did he do anything to you today?”
“Well that’s good.”
“Yeah but I don’t know how long it will last.” Sungmin pouted and put his head down.
Ryeowook came over and gave him a hug.
At that moment, Kyuhyun and Yesung happened to walk in and see this. The two kinda stood there so when the four of them looked up, they spotted them.
Donghae was the first to react. He grabbed his things and left. Eunhyuk, Sungmin, and Ryeowook followed suit.
As they walked past, Yesung reached out a hand and grabbed Ryeowook by the wrist. Ryeowook looked at him wide-eyed.
“Ryeowook, come on.” Donghae came back and pulled Ryeowook away, leaving Yesung gaping.
“Nice going, hyung.” Kyuhyun laughed before he stepped up to the cashier to order his drink.
The four of them went to the local park to chill.
Donghae smiled when he spotted the playground and ran over to play. Eunhyuk followed to make sure Donghae didn’t hurt himself (he was prone to all sorts of accidents). Sungmin and Ryeowook sat on a bench together, watching the two.
“Can you explain why Kyuhyun and Yesung are so bad? I’m just having trouble understanding. They have such beautiful voices; they can’t be that bad. I mean sure they’re aloof and every other adjective related to that but nothing points to them being so bad you have to avoid.”
“Well they’re not bad per se but I mainly dislike them because the first time I met Kyuhyun, he teased me and has been ever since which seriously annoys me. I dislike Yesung and Kibum by association. Why are you asking? My bias won’t stop me from giving you my blessing if you wanna be with Yesung, though you’re too good for him.”
“Oh…uh thank you.” Ryeowook blushed. “But that’s not why. It’s just kind of hard for me to try and ignore them since I’ll probably have to interact with them a lot. Just wanted to get my facts straight. At least now I know where you’re coming from. If you want, I could try and figure out why Kyuhyun keeps teasing you. I hope you won’t be offended or anything if I’m nice to them. I’m very shy but very nice to everyone once I know who they are.”
“Alright, alright. That’s good to know. Thank you for telling me, Ryeowook, and you don’t have to do that. I’m fine. Been dealing with his relentless teasing for years. I think I can handle a couple more years.”
“Oh alright.” Ryeowook gave a small smile and glanced at his watch. “Oh no, I gotta get going.”
“I’ll go with you.” Sungmin stood up. “Hey Donghae, Eunhyuk, we’re leaving now. We’ll see you tomorrow.”
“Bye Minnie, Wookie.” Donghae waved from his perch on the monkey bars.
Sungmin and Ryeowook waved before making their way towards the metro.
“Donghae, be careful.”
“Oh, don’t worry, Hyukkie. If I fall, you’ll catch me right?”
“Yes, but I don’t want to test that right now – Donghae!”
Donghae’s foot slipped as he tried to stand on top of the monkey bars.
Eunhyuk ran over to try and catch him.
