Summary: Sungmin’s the resident Love Doctor with the ability to know people’s soulmates. Then she meets her soulmate who’s interested in someone else…and he wants her help to get the other girl!
A/N: I wrote this and wasn’t sure if it should take place before Donghae came or after…but then decided it happened before XD
“Another successful match for the Love Doctor.” Sungmin smiled as she watched the couple kiss and walk away together, hand in hand.
Ryeowook looked at the couple then at Sungmin. “Seriously Sungmin, how can you play matchmaker when you don’t even have a boyfriend yourself?”
“It’s just a gift. I don’t need a boyfriend to know who’s perfect for someone.”
“Yes but if you know who’s perfect for someone, why can’t you find a boyfriend for yourself?”
“I don’t need a boyfriend. I’m happy secretly helping people.”
Ryeowook sighed. “Stop avoiding the question.”
“No.” Sungmin smiled. “Stop spoiling my mood, Wookie. Let’s go celebrate another happy couple.”
“Fine.” Sungmin smiled and linked arms with Ryeowook, leading her away.
“Hi, you’re Sungmin, right?”
“Yes.” Sungmin looked up and smiled. “Oh hello, Kyuhyun, is there something I can help you with?”
“Yes.” Kyuhyun leaned down to whisper in her ear. “I need advice from the Love Doctor.”
Sungmin stared up at Kyuhyun in surprise. “W-w-what?”
“I said I need advice from the Love Doctor.”
“How-how did you know?”
Kyuhyun smiled. “I have my ways. So are you going to help or not?”
“Uh…um…sure. Meet me after school in the back.”
“Alright.” Kyuhyun smiled and walked back to Kibum’s table. Sungmin stared at him.
“What was that about?”
Sungmin turned to stare vacantly at Ryeowook. “He knows.”
Sungmin paced up and down the empty classroom. Ryeowook watched as her friend worried herself over nothing.
“What’s so bad about him knowing? People are bound to find out sooner or later anyway.”
“Yea but this is Kyuhyun who knows. That’s worst.”
“Why? Tell me. I don’t understand why Kyuhyun’s different.”
Sungmin sighed. “Well it’s because…because…” She blushed. “The perfect person for him is me.” Ryeowook stared at Sungmin. “And I don’t think I can help him try to get another girl.”
“But you’re not helping him. He just wants advice. It’s not directly helping him so it should be okay. Besides, you already agreed to help him. You can’t back out now.”
“Fine.” Sungmin sighed and collapsed into a chair. “Why is love so complicated?”
Ryeowook chuckled. “I don’t think you’ve seen complicated yet.”
“Oh but I probably will…”
Sungmin slowly made her way to the back of the school once the bell rang. She was afraid of what was going to happen. She saw Kyuhyun leaning against a tree, staring at her. She couldn’t stop the blush rising to her cheeks. She made sure her face was back to normal by the time she reached him.
Kyuhyun stood up and smiled at Sungmin. “Hi.”
“Hi. So what did you need help with?”
“Why don’t you sit down? This could take a while.”
“Uh sure.” Sungmin started to sit down but Kyuhyun stopped her.
“Here, sit on this so you don’t get your skirt dirty.” Kyuhyun handed her a little cushion.
“Oh…uh…thank you.” Sungmin blushed as she sat down on the cushion. She settled herself before turning to look at Kyuhyun. “So what’s the problem?”
“Well there’s this girl I like, cute and pretty, but I have no idea how to get her attention so I can ask her out.”
“So you need my help in getting her attention?”
“Not help, just advice. What are ways to get a girl’s attention?”
“Well it depends on the person. You’re tall and silent. What’s she like?”
“Hmm…bright, lively, friendly, but keeps to herself and friends.”
“Oh…hmm…let me think. Can you tell me anything else about her? I need to know more to know what kind of girl she is.”
“Well I don’t know much else about her. I haven’t been able to get that close to her to find out.”
“Oh…” Sungmin looked down, lost in her thoughts.
“But I was thinking maybe something romantic like leaving her a note and a rose in her locker or –“
“No, I don’t think you should. What would you write in a note?”
Kyuhyun blushed. “I don’t know.”
Sungmin smiled. “And that’s why it won’t work. Pick something you can actually do that’s still sweet and romantic in its own way.”
“But I don’t know what to do. This is my first –“ Kyuhyun broke off and blushed.
Aww, that’s so cute. Sungmin smiled. “That’s alright. Hmm, since you’re new at this…do you think you could approach her and talk to her and try to get closer to her?” Kyuhyun shook his head. Sungmin sighed. “Then I guess you do need to start out with leaving little gifts or notes in her locker until you get up the courage to approach her.”
“Okay, so what should I start off with?”
“Start with something you’re comfortable with. You don’t have to give her something everyday unless you want to.” Sungmin thought for a moment. “Well I guess that’s it. Sorry I couldn’t help you much but until you get more information, I can’t really help.”
“No, that’s alright. You did help. Thank you, Sungmin.”
Sungmin stood up and gave Kyuhyun back his cushion. “You’re welcome.” She brushed imaginary dirt off her skirt. “I’ll see you tomorrow. Good luck with that girl.” Sungmin walked away.
“Wait.” She paused and turned around to see Kyuhyun hurrying to catch up. “Let me walk you home. It’s late and a girl shouldn’t walk home by herself. It’s not safe.”
“No, it’s alright. I’ll be fine.”
“No, let me.” Kyuhyun smiled down at her.
Sungmin sighed. “Fine.” Kyuhyun smiled and began walking alongside her.
“So what do you like to do besides secretly helping people hook up?”
“Hey, I don’t hook them up. I help them find their soulmate. I secretly get them to meet and then the rest is up to them.”
“Oh okay. So does that mean you know everyone’s soulmate?”
“So does that mean you know mine?” Sungmin looked away. “Ah-ha, so you do.” Kyuhyun smiled. “Who is it?”
“I can’t say.”
“That would defeat the purpose.”
“Fine then tell me if I’m wasting my time with this girl.”
Sungmin looked at Kyuhyun. “I can’t do that. Besides, the fact that I don’t know who the girl is, I can’t tell you. It’s not right.”
“Fine.” Kyuhyun looked at Sungmin who was looking elsewhere. Sungmin was caught off guard when a hand cupped the back of her neck and her lips were captured in a brief kiss. Sungmin stood there frozen when Kyuhyun pulled away and looked down at her. “Who’s my soulmate?”
“Me.” Kyuhyun grinned at her. Sungmin’s eyes widened as she realized what she said. “OMG! I can’t believe you did that.” Tears came to her eyes and spilled down her face. Without another word or glance at Kyuhyun, she ran home.
She ran straight to her room and flopped on her bed, letting the tears flow freely now. She blindly reached for her phone and called Ryeowook.
“Sungmin? Are you okay? Why are you crying?”
“Ryeowook…can you come over please?”
“Sure, I’ll be there in five.”
“Ryeowook!” Sungmin collapsed into Ryeowook’s arms. Her tears hadn’t subsided.
“Come on, Sungmin, sweetie. Let’s get you back to bed. I have some ice cream for you.”
Sungmin sniffled. “Alright.”
The two of them went back to Sungmin’s room. Sungmin climbed into bed, pulling the covers over her. Ryeowook handed her her favorite pink bunny. She took the carton of ice cream, opened it, stuck a spoon in it, and gave it to Sungmin. Sungmin took it and began eating it.
“So can you tell me what happened?”
Sungmin sniffled. “So I met Kyuhyun after school. And we talked. This is his first so he was clueless as to what to do. So I gave him some advice. Then he offered to walk me home and that’s when…when…he…he…kissed me.”
“What? You had your first kiss?”
Sungmin nodded her head. “But that’s not important. He kissed me when he likes someone else. And I think he was just joking or teasing when he kissed me. We were talking about soulmates and he wanted to know who was his. I wouldn’t tell him and then he just kissed me.” Tears came to her eyes again. “And…I told him who it was too…after he kissed me.”
“Aww poor baby.” Ryeowook came over to the bed. She placed the carton to the side and gave Sungmin a hug.
“Wookie, what am I supposed to do? He kissed me but needs help to get the girl he likes. He’s my soulmate but he likes someone else. But now he knows I’m his soulmate. What if I just accidentally ruined that girl’s chance to date him? What do I do?”
Ryeowook wiped Sungmin’s tears away. “Well first you’re going to forget that this ever happened. Forget the kiss. It’s not important, meaningless, since he likes someone else. Then if he asks you for advice again, just give it to him. Don’t act any differently towards him but maybe you shouldn’t be alone with him that much and definitely no walking you home. You got it?”
Sungmin nodded her head. “Good, now let’s get some actual food in you. My treat.” Ryeowook smiled.
The first thing Sungmin saw at school the next day was a rose sticking out from her locker. She looked at it, confused. She tried to find a note but nothing. She did find a little Hershey’s kiss attached to the rose.
“Now who could’ve left this? Must have gotten the wrong locker.” She left it in her locker and went off to class.
The next day she found another rose and Hershey’s kiss. And the day after that and the day after that. She finally accepted that they were for her after 2 straight whole weeks of receiving a rose and Hershey’s kiss.
“Wookie, someone left a rose and kiss in my locker again.”
Ryeowook looked at her. “Okay, what about it?”
Sungmin pouted. “Who’s doing this? I want to know. No one has ever intentionally left me roses and kisses. I don’t know what to do.”
“Just accept them as gifts and leave it at that.”
Sungmin wrinkled her nose in distain. “That sounds so…unromantic? I don’t know. You’re so rational I wonder why we’re friends. Everyone keeps telling me I’m a dreamer and you’re a thinker. We don’t match.”
“But we do.”
“Don’t worry about it. Just eat your lunch and enjoy the rose and chocolate.”
Sungmin pouted but did what Ryeowook said.
I need your help. Meet me after school in the back
Sungmin looked at the note then across the room at Kyuhyun. He was looking at her and smiling. She gave a small smile before looking away. She stared out the window and sighed. She hoped she was ready to see Kyuhyun alone.
Sungmin slowly made her way to the back of the school once the bell rang. Like before, Kyuhyun was resting on the tree.
“Hi.” Kyuhyun straightened up and smiled as Sungmin walked towards him. “How are you?”
“I’m fine. So what did you need help with?”
“Do you want to sit?” Sungmin shook her head. “Okay, well I did what you said and started leaving things in her locker. And I think it’s starting to work but I don’t know. She probably doesn’t even know it’s from me.”
“Well do you want her to know it’s you?”
“Not yet but I do want more of her attention. What else should I do to get her to notice me?”
“Well you could try a big romantic gesture but that usually involves revealing yourself. If you’re not ready to reveal yourself, you can start leaving her notes with your gifts if you haven’t given her notes yet.”
“But I’m bad at writing love notes.”
“Well love notes express how you feel. You can at least do that, right?”
Kyuhyun looked skeptical. “I guess.”
“Well then you should do that. Add a note with some of your gifts. It can make it more special and make her curious to know who you are. You’ll pique her curiousity and get her interested in you.”
“Okay then. Thanks for the help.”
“You’re welcome.” Sungmin walked away.
“Do you want me to walk you home”
“No. I’ll be fine.” She waved and hurriedly walked away. Kyuhyun stared after her, a look of longing, sadness, and worry on his face.
The next day Sungmin found a note attached to the rose this time. She opened it and smiled as she read it. The note was so sweet. She placed it in a safe spot in her bag.
Sungmin began collecting all the notes she got. By the end of the week, in her room, she had a small pile of chocolates, a small box of notes, and 2 vases of roses.
“Wow, you’ve got quite a collection now.” Ryeowook smiled. “So how many?”
Sungmin smiled. “15 roses, 10 chocolates, and 5 notes.”
“Oh so it’s not that big but you do have more than a month ago.”
“Wookie…” They smiled at each other. “I have no idea who this is but I think I may be falling for him.”
“Aww, your first crush. I’m so happy for you.”
“Yeah but…I don’t think anything can happen. Kyuhyun’s my soulmate. Eventually we’ll end up together.”
“Yeah but you don’t know when that’ll happen. You should enjoy your social life before you settle down. Explore, see what’s out there. It’s okay to date other guys before Kyuhyun.”
“Yes but I don’t want to. I want it all to be with Kyuhyun; it’ll be more special.”
“Well then what are you going to do if this guy asks you out?”
Sungmin sighed. “I have no choice but to reject him”
“That’s sad. You won’t even give him a chance.”
“I know. I feel bad but this is how I feel.”
Sungmin opened her locker and a small box with a note fell out. She picked it up and stared at it.
Sungmin, will you go out with me? I know you probably can’t answer that until you see me so meet me in the garden after school. I’ll be waiting for your answer.
Sungmin’s eyes widened as she finished reading the note. She rushed down the hall in search of Ryeowook.
“Wookie! Wookie, Wookie, Wookie…I need your help!”
“What’s the matter?”
Sungmin showed Ryeowook the note and box. Ryeowook’s eyes widened. She looked at Sungmin. “Did you open the box yet?”
“No, I’m scared.”
“Alright, so are you going to see him?”
“I-I-I guess…but I think I’m going to have to reject him. Wookie, be there with me when I go to see him. Like hide behind a bush or something.”
“Alright, alright, alright. I’ll go with you and support you.”
Sungmin smiled. “Thank you, oh thank you, Wookie. I love you.”
Once the bell rang, signaling the end of school, Sungmin and Ryeowook met up and slowly walked to the garden in the back of the school.
Ryeowook stopped a few meters away from where the garden was. “Okay, I’ll wait here for you.”
“Oh alright. Wish me luck.”
“Good luck. Remember, I’ll be right here for you if you need me.”
“Alright.” Sungmin hugged Ryeowook and walked the rest of the way to the garden. She peered around but saw no one. She decided to sit on the bench and wait. She took out the box and began playing with it, moving it from hand to hand, not opening it. She heard footsteps coming towards her. She kept her gaze down until a pair of shoes entered her line of vision. She took a deep breath and looked up and froze.
“Kyuhyun? What are you doing here?”
He shyly smiled at her. “Waiting for an answer.”
“What? Wait, you’re the one who left me all that stuff in my locker?” Kyuhyun nodded his head. “But what about that girl you like? You didn’t give up on her and switch to me after you found out I was your soulmate?”
“No, no, no…uh…” Kyuhyun looked away. “How do I say this? Well…the girl I like is you.”
Kyuhyun pulled Sungmin into his embrace and stared down into her eyes. “I like you, Sungmin. I always liked you but you never noticed me. I figured this would be a good way to get your attention.”
“Then the kiss…?”
“Impulse and I wanted to see if I could learn who my soulmate was.” Kyuhyun grinned as Sungmin teasingly pushed his chest.
“So you stole my first kiss because you wanted information from me?”
“I ‘stole’ it because I wanted to. Besides you took my first kiss too.”
Sungmin blushed and looked away. “Oh.”
“So,” Sungmin looked at Kyuhyun, “what’s your answer?”
“I like you too, Kyuhyun. Of course I’ll go out with you.” Kyuhyun smiled and leaned down to give Sungmin a kiss. “Hopefully I can get that like to become love.”
“It already has.”
Sungmin smiled. “Oh, well that was fast.”
Kyuhyun chuckled. He reached for the box Sungmin was still holding and opened it. Sungmin gasped as she stared at the sapphire ring. He took it out and held it out to Sungmin.
“Will you be mine, Sungmin?”
“Yes.” She smiled as she held her hand out for Kyuhyun to put the ring on. He pulled her towards him for a loving kiss.
A few meters away, Ryeowook watched with tears in her eyes. “Oh that was just so sweet and romantic. I’m so happy for her. Hmm…I wonder when I’ll find someone…”
