Word Count: 1574
Summary: Now it’s time for Eunhyuk and Donghae’s baby Eunhae’s love story…
“When I grow up, I’m going to marry you, Eunhae.” Little 5-year-old Henry beamed at little 3-year-old Eunhae. Eunhae shyly smiled and nodded in agreement.
“Here’s my promise to you.” Henry leaned down and gave her a kiss on her cheek, making little Eunhae blush. Henry smiled at her but soon blushed in embarrassment when Eunhae stood on her little tiptoes and leaned in, placing a kiss on Henry’s cheek.
“Come on, let’s go play.” Henry grabbed Eunhae’s hand and went over to the playground where Zhoumi, Onew, Jonghyun, Key, Minho, and Taemin were playing.
“Eunhae, will you go out with me?” 16-year-old Eunhae looked at the bouquet of flowers Junsu held out to her. She looked at his earnest face and could see the sincerity shining from his eyes.
Eunhae smiled gently at Junsu. “I’m sorry but I can’t accept you. I-I like someone else.” She looked at Junsu who had such a heartbroken expression. “I’m really sorry.” She gave him one last encouraging smile before walking away.
Gawd, I hate doing that. It happens at least once a month. I feel so bad each time I reject them but I can’t go out with them, not when my heart belongs to someone else.
It’s been 5 years since Henry left Korea for America. His family moved away for his education, the same reason his cousin Zhoumi moved to China. It was so sad when they both left her. They were her closest friends. Henry was her best friend.
The day before Henry left, the two made a promise.
“Promise me you’ll be mine. In 10 years, I’ll come back for you and we’ll get married, just like we always said.”
“Alright, I’ll wait for you as long as you wait for me.”
Henry smiled. “Promise me.”
Eunhae smiled and leaned in to kiss his cheek but a few centimeters away, Henry turned his head and captured Eunhae’s lips in a short sweet kiss. She pulled away and blushed.
Henry beamed at her. “I love you, Eunhae. I’ll wait forever for you.”
“I-I love you too, Henry.” Henry smiled. He pulled her into his embrace and kissed her forehead before leaving.
Only 5 more years before he comes back. I hope he remembers our promise. I miss him. I haven’t heard from him for 5 years.
“Hey Eunhae, did you hear the news?”
Eunhae looked up from behind the counter to look at Sungmin standing there.
Eunhae worked part time at Heechul and Hankyung’s café. They opened it up when they moved back to Korea from China 5 years ago when she was in middle school. She worked alongside her aunts and uncles and Zhoumi. Hankyung worked in the kitchen with Zhoumi as help. Heechul and Sungmin ran the counter and served guests. Eunhae worked alongside Heechul and Sungmin.
“He’s coming back.”
“WHAT?!?!” Eunhae’s eyes widened. She left her place and walked into the kitchen.
“ZHOUMI! I NEED TO TALK TO YOU!!!”
Zhoumi looked up from his work, making pastries, and looked at Eunhae. “Yes?”
“Why didn’t you tell me?”
“Tell you what?” Zhoumi looked innocently at Eunhae.
“Zhoumi!” Eunhae pouted and stomped her foot, looking just like her umma throwing a little tantrum.
Zhoumi smiled. “Alright, alright, alright, I didn’t tell you because –“
“Eunhae, a customer needs you.”
She sighed. “Alright, I’m coming, Heechul.” She looked at Zhoumi who looked very smug in Eunhae’s opinion. “I’ll talk to you later.” She pointed at him. “You better have a good excuse.”
She stalked back out to the counter, a smile pasted on her face, but that slipped off as she stared at the person on the other side of the counter.
Henry smiled brightly at Eunhae. “Hello Eunhae.”
Tears came to her eyes, as she looked Henry up and down. “Henry…”
Henry held out his arms. Eunhae moved around the counter into Henry’s embrace. She wrapped her arms around him, her tears falling unbidden from her eyes.
“I missed you, Henry.” She buried her face in his neck, breathing in his scent.
“I missed you too, Eunhae.” He placed a kiss on her forehead before tilting her face up to his and placing a short sweet kiss on her lips.
“Eunhae,” Henry smiled, “do you want to go to a concert with me tonight?”
Eunhae smiled brightly. “Sure.”
Eunhae sat in her seat and looked around. It was hard to spot anyone since the hall lights were already dimmed in preparation for the start of the concert. She had no idea what kind of concert was.
Earlier, after Henry had asked her to go to the concert with him, he told her to dress nice and that a car would pick her up at her house around 6. She had no idea what to wear and went to her mom for advice. Of course her mom had to call Sungmin, Heechul, and Ryeowook for help. They even brought Leeteuk along, whom Eunhae hadn’t seen in 10 years. It was great to see all her aunts but why did she need 5 people to dress her? It was just a concert.
Of course having her aunts dress her meant she was decked out in outrageous, glamorous, gaudy clothing, sometimes too revealing, but actually this time, their taste seemed to be subdued. Eunhae looked stunning in a midnight blue formal gown. Her hair was styled up with a few tendrils left to curl and frame her face. She wore a simple silver chain with a little heart pendant her parents had given her when she turned 18.
Promptly at 6, a car came and picked her up. In the back seat was a small bouquet of roses. She picked them up, sniffed them, and smiled. She was a little disappointed Henry wasn’t in the car with her but she figured he was waiting for her at the concert hall.
As soon as she arrived at the concert hall, she was whisked inside and seated in the dimly lit hall. She didn’t even get a chance to look around for Henry because the moment she stood up to try and look for him, someone walked out on stage.
“Thank you all for coming. Tonight, we have a special performer. Henry Lau!”
“Henry?” Confused, Eunhae looked at the stage. Henry came out, dressed in a tuxedo, holding a violin. He stood in front of the piano accompanist and began to play.
Eunhae sat there, mesmerized, during the entire concert. She always loved hearing Henry play the violin, even when she was a little child. His music just swept her away.
In between playing classical songs or traditional music, he threw in some upbeat, modern songs. He even danced as he played which completely surprised Eunhae. She never knew he had the talent to do that.
“And now for my special finale.” Henry smiled. “Can I have Ms. Eunhae Lee come up to the stage?”
Eunhae’s eyes widened. What? Is-is Henry calling me up on stage?
“Eunhae…I know you’re here. Come on up.” Henry looked towards the back. “Can someone turn the houselights on or put a spotlight on Eunhae? Oh there she is. Thank you.” Henry turned to Eunhae, illuminated by the spotlight.
“Come here, Eunhae.”
As if in a trance, Eunhae slowly got out of her seat and made her way onto the stage. She stood directly in front of Henry.
He beamed a bright smile at her and took her hand in his.
“I would like to ask you a question Eunhae, in front of everyone.” Henry bent down on one knee and pulled a small box out of his pocket, flipping the lid.
“Lee Eunhae, will you marry me?”
Eunhae smiled brightly. “Yes, of course I’ll marry you.”
Henry stood up and placed the ring on her finger. He pulled her towards him and captured her lips in a long romantic (overdued) kiss.
The house lights turned on as the audience stood up and clapped. Henry and Eunhae pulled away to look out at the audience. Eunhae was surprised to see the whole family sitting front and center of the concert hall. There were her parents Eunhyuk and Donghae, Henry’s parents Kangin and Leeteuk, Heechul, Hankyung, and Zhoumi, Sungmin and Kyuhyun, Ryeowook and Yesung, and Shindong. Her friends were even there: Onew, Jonghyun, Key, Minho, and Taemin.
Eunhae looked at her parents. They were both smiling brightly at her. Her mother, along with Leeteuk, was crying tears of joy. She saw her dad try to hide his tears as he had his arm wrapped around Donghae.
She smiled brightly at everyone and looked at Henry. “I love you, Henry.”
“I love you, Eunhae.”
She kissed his cheek. “So when’s our wedding?”
Henry smiled. “Don’t you remember?” Eunhae looked at Henry confused. “We’re going to have a wedding just like your umma and appa.”
“Really?” Tears came to Eunhae’s eyes.
“Of course. It’s what you want and what you want is what I want.” Henry smiled. “Haven’t we had this all planned out since we were little kids?”
Eunhae smiled as tears of joy began to fall. “Of course. I just can’t believe it’s actually coming true, after all these years.”
“Of course it is. Did you forget? With me, all your dreams will come true.”
Eunhae smiled. She gave him a chaste kiss. “Of course, how could I forget?” She giggled. “I love you, Henry.”
“I love you, Eunhae.”
