Where is he taking me? Youngwoon had a strong grip on my wrist. I haven’t seen him this upset. I looked around me. When did we leave school?
“Youngwoon, we’re gonna get caught. We should get back to school before they notice us missing.”
“Just be quiet.” I closed my mouth. It probably best I let him cool off by himself but seriously, where is he taking me?
After walking for what seems like forever, we came to a secret clearing in the park. He let go of my wrists. I looked around the place. The trees formed a private little oasis. “What is this place? It’s so nice and peaceful. It’s absolutely beautiful.”
“Huh? What did you say?” I looked at him.
“Nothing. Come on.” He took my hand and pulled me further in. That’s when I noticed something I hadn’t seen before. In the middle of the circle was a picnic basket and blanket. Youngwoon had already unfolded the blanket and was now taking boxes of food out. I could only stare at him.
“Aren’t you going to come over and eat?”
“When did you prepare all this?”
“When you weren’t looking.” He had a cheeky grin on his face. I went over to him. I smiled down at him. He looked up. I kissed his cheek before sitting down next to him.
Why did he do that? I was completely shocked. I could feel my face burning from that kiss. I glanced at him. He was just sitting there, eating the food I’d prepared (actually bought). There wasn’t anything different except I saw a small smile on his face. His little dimple was showing, which meant he was really happy. I just sat there staring at him, forgetting about the food.
“What? Is there something on my face?”
“Huh? Oh, no there’s nothing. I was just thinking.”
He tilted his head. “Thinking about what?”
I pulled out the little cake in the basket. “You ready for dessert?”
He smiled. “Sure.”
Youngwoon placed the cake down in front of me and started looking at through the picnic basket for utensils. I looked at the cake. It was so pretty decorated with strawberries. There was even some writing on it. It said --
I looked at Youngwoon. He’d stopped looking through the basket and was looking at me. I just stared at him before I threw myself at him.
“Do you really mean that?”
“What is says on that cake there.” I pointed to it. He glanced at it. Written in icing were the words “Saranghae Please be mine.”
I saw a big smile on his face. “Yes. But --” I pressed my lips against him. He stiffened for a moment before returning my kiss. I smiled into the kiss. The kiss started out as an innocent touch of lips but when I felt him respond, the kiss grew deeper, hotter, more passionate. Our tongues fought, my arms went around his neck, he pulled me closer so I was sitting in his lap. Everything felt so right as we kissed. We finally pulled away when the need for air couldn’t be ignored. “I love you” were the first words out of my mouth after the kiss. He just looked at me before crushing me in a giant bear hug.
“You have no idea how long I’ve waited to hear those words from you.”
“You have no idea how long I’ve waited to say those words. I’ve loved you for so long. I wanted to tell you but I was afraid you wouldn’t feel the same.” I looked away from him, a blush forming on my face.
He turned my face towards him, a smile on his face. “I love you so much. I’ll do anything to protect. From now on, you’re mine.”
“I’m yours, just like you’re mine.” I smiled. I rested my head on his shoulder. We sat like that for a few minutes. “Now can you tell why you were like that at lunch?”
“Like what?” I looked at him. “Fine, I was upset you forgot and that new kid was monopolizing all your time.” I smiled.
“So you were jealous?”
“No.” He pouted and looked away. I smiled even more and gave him a hug.
“You are jealous. But you have nothing to worry about. I absolutely completely love you. I have for years. Nothing will change that.” I kissed him before moving away.
Complete and utter shock. That’s how I felt after Jungsu’s confession. I just sat there while he started packing up the picnic items.
“Are you going to just sit there like a lump or help me fold up this blanket?” I shook my head and got up to help. Everything that had happened the last few minutes still hadn’t sunk in yet. But as I watched him finish cleaning and packing everything, I was filled with so much emotion. I went behind him and just wrapped my arms around his waist. He leaned back into my embrace. We just stayed like that, content in each other’s embrace.
I watched the newly formed couple from my comfortable hiding place with an expression of happiness and sadness. “They have no idea what’s in store for them do they?”
“No. I feel so bad, but there’s no way to avoid it. The truth has to be revealed soon.”
