Theme: 005. Overworked Ryeowook/Kibum
Summary: Kibum gets a call that Ryeowook is sick, which makes him reminisce about the time he was sick (yes it's a bad summary)
“Can you come over? Ryeowook’s sick.”
Kibum dropped his cell phone. Ryeowook is sick?
It was a month ago. Kibum had fallen ill while filming his latest drama. He had no one to take care of him. He was just lying in bed, all alone and in the dark, when he heard the door open. He heard footsteps make their way to his bedroom door. He pulled the covers over his eyes and peeked out.
Light shined around a dark silhouette standing in the doorway. Kibum covered his eyes and pretended to be asleep. He heard footsteps come closer and closer to his bed.
The blanket was pulled away and Kibum was staring directly into Ryeowook’s eyes.
“Hyung? What are you doing here?”
“I’m here to take care of you. I heard you were sick so I wanted to come check up on you.”
“Thank you hyung but you don’t have to.”
“Of course I do. You’re family. I bet you got sick from overworking. You were probably concentrating so much on your acting you’ve been neglecting your health. You really should take better care of yourself.” The whole time Ryeowook had been talking he had been pulling items out of a duffel bag he had brought along. Kibum watched as he pulled out an ice pack, a washcloth, a thermometer, a thermos, some medicine, and another blanket and pillow. He had also seen extra clothes in the bag. Ryeowook was probably going to spend his whole time here until Kibum felt better.
“Alright, now just lie down and get comfortable.” Ryeowook took the thermometer and stuck it in Kibum’s mouth. “Don’t worry about a thing. I’m here to watch over you, cater to your whims, etc.” He pulled out the thermometer and glanced at it before placing it away. He placed his hand on Kibum’s forehead. He slightly frowned before taking the ice pack and placing it on Kibum’s forehead. “You should probably go back to sleep. Lots of rest will help.”
“Alright hyung. Good night.”
“Good night, Kibummie.” Kibum closed his eyes and fell instantly to sleep.
The next morning, Kibum woke up to the smell of breakfast.
“Good morning, Kibummie. Feeling any better? I have breakfast ready for you. I think you might be able to eat some of this.” Kibum sat up and Ryeowook placed the tray on his lap. Kibum looked at the food and smiled. Ryeowook had rearranged the food to resemble a smiley face.
“Thank you, Ryeowook.”
“You’re welcome. Now eat up.” Kibum took the first bite and paused. It was so delicious. It’s been a long time since he’s had homemade food. He quickly ate it all up, not realizing he had been so hungry. Ryeowook smiled.
Once Kibum was done, Ryeowook took the tray away and felt Kibum’s forehead. He took out the thermometer and stuck it in Kibum’s mouth. He waited a few seconds before pulling it out. He gave it a glance before putting away and pulling out a wet washcloth to place on Kibum’s forehead.
“Well, we’re making fast progress. I think you might be all better in a few days.”
“A few days? How long is that?”
“My guess: around 4-5 days minimum. If you keep this up, you’ll be better in 2 days, but you should probably stay in bed another day just to be safe. Now get some rest. I’ll wake you up later for lunch. It’s very important for you to get lots of rest and eat plenty of good healthy food.”
“Now go to sleep. I’ll be here when you wake up again. I’m not leaving until you’re 100% better.”
For the next 2 days, Ryeowook and Kibum developed a small routine. Ryeowook would make Kibum breakfast in bed. Afterwards, Kibum would take a nap. Ryeowook would wake him up again only for lunch and dinner. Kibum had gotten more sleep the past few days than he had in the last 2 weeks.
“I’m feeling so much better, I think I’ll be able to go to work tomorrow.”
“Oh no you don’t. Tomorrow you will stay home and relax. You can work the following day. I want to make sure you’re completely well and rested. I won’t let all my hard work go to waste.”
“But hyung, I’ve already missed several days of work.”
“That doesn’t matter. You can make them up later. When you’re all rested and feeling better, you’ll zip right through those rehearsals and shoots. You’ll see. I promise you. Once you’re well rested, you’ll act better than you have the past few weeks. You can count on it.”
Kibum went into work the following day. He got ready for his scene. In a few hours, it was all over. That was the fastest shoot he had ever done. He didn’t make a single NG. He didn’t have to reshoot anything. Everyone, including himself, were impressed.
“Great job today, Kibum. Keep up the good work.”
“Thank you. I will.” After he said all his goodbyes, he went straight home and called Ryeowook.
“Hyung, you were right.”
Ryeowook smiled. “Of course I was. I know what’s good for you. You should always listen to me. Now go get something good to eat for dinner and sleep early tonight. You have a long day ahead of you tomorrow.”
“Alright, Ryeowook. Bye.”
<<<<<>>>>>How could Ryeowook be sick? He took care of everyone in the dorm.
Kibum paced around for a bit. Maybe he was too busy taking care of everyone else to take care of himself. If that’s the case, who’s taking care of him right now?
Kibum quickly grabbed his coat, cell phone, and keys and immediately rushed over to the Super Junior dorm. It took him a few minutes to find the right key (he kept dropping them in his haste) and open the door.
Everything was pitch dark. Then someone turned on the lights, blinding him, and everyone yelled “Surprise!”
“What?” Confetti fell around him, sticking to his clothes and his hair. “What’s going on?”
Kibum looked at Donghae. “What? But it’s not my birthday.”
“Oh sorry. I meant Congratulations!”
Kibum stared at everyone smiling at him. “For what?”
“For working so hard.”
Kibum looked at everyone confused. “What?”
Leeteuk laughed his infamous laugh. “They’re just joking. We’re just having a get together to spend time with one another and catch up. It’s been a while since we were all in one place together.”
“But why did you guys surprise me?”
“Because we wanted to. Seemed like fun.”
“But why did you tell me Ryeowook was sick?”
“How else could we get you to come over? It was either Ryeowook or Siwon who was going to be sick.” Sungmin laughed.
“You never hang out with us anymore. You’re always too busy, practicing for your drama. Thought you might want to relax and unwind for a bit.”
Kibum frowned before breaking out into a smile. Everyone smiled as well.
“Group hug!” Siwon was the first to hug Kibum before everyone else joined in.
Kibum smiled to himself. His hyungs sure were strange sometimes but they still cared for him.
