“Kangin hyung! Leeteuk hyung!”
“Yes Ryeowook-ah?” I turned around in time to catch Ryeowook who had thrown himself at him. I caught the tears in his eyes. “Aww, Wookie-ah, what’s wrong?”
“*sniff**sniff* I…I…got another note. *sniff**sniff* and this time it was in my room…on my bed…” Ryeowook burst into tears. “And…and…he left something else too…” Ryeowook pulled out a small gift from his book bag. Kangin instantly grabbed it and opened it up. Inside was a small bottle of lotion and another note. “Here’s a bottle of lotion for you. Take good care of that pretty face of yours.”
Kangin looked at me and Ryeowook. “What do you think we should do?”
“C-c-can I stay over at your house tonight, Leeteuk hyung?”
“Sure.” I hugged Ryeowook and looked over at Kangin. I silently told him, “We need to do something about this before it gets out of hand.”
Ryeowook walked home with Leeteuk and Kangin. He held onto Leeteuk’s hand like a frightened little child. I felt bad for him. He kept nervously glancing around.
“Wookie-ah, are you okay?”
Ryeowook looked back at me. “Huh? What? Yeah I’m fine. Are we almost there?”
I just looked at him but said nothing. “Yeah, just one more block.”
“Alright, come on.” Ryeowook ran forward, tugging on my hand. I glanced at Kangin. He just shrugged and kept walking. I let Ryeowook pull me to my house.
Once inside my house, I saw Ryeowook breathe a sigh of relief. I just ignored it for now.
“Come on, let’s get something to eat. I walked into the kitchen and froze. There in the window, was a face. I choked up with fear as I looked at the face. He caught my eye and gave a small smile before disappearing.
“Leeteuk? Are you alright?” Someone shook my shoulder.
“Huh? Yeah, I’m fine.”
“Why were you just standing there?”
“Oh, I was just thinking of something. Don’t worry about it. Come on, let’s make dinner.” Ryeowook looked at me before moving off to prepare something. Kangin came over to me, wrapping his arms around my waist. I leaned back against him, seeking some comfort.
“What’s the matter Teukie?”
“He was there.”
I made sure Ryeowook was asleep before leaving to go down to the kitchen. Kangin was already waiting there. I made myself a cup of tea and sat down.
“So what are we going to do?”
“I don’t know.”
“We have to do something. We can’t just let this go on. Do you see how upset he is now?”
“Hey! It wasn’t my idea. It was yours. You agreed to this.”
“Yes but I had no idea it would do this to him. I just want him to be happy.”
“Don’t worry about it. There’s nothing we can do right now. So just go to sleep.”
“Alright.” I finished my cup of tea and went back upstairs. I checked on Ryeowook before collapsing on my own bed.
I was walking down the hall when I heard someone yell “LEETEUK HYUNG!!!!”
I turned around and opened my arms. Ryeowook collapsed into them. “I’m so scared.” He openly sobbed. I hugged him, letting him cry and ruin my shirt. Kangin looked quite helpless, watching me comfort the sobbing Ryeowook. “He-he-he left another note in my locker. And it-it-it…” Ryeowook hid his face in my chest, sobbing again. I motioned to Kangin to get the note in his bag. He pulled out a note with a little gift attached.
“You haven’t used the lotion I gave you. You should take good care of your face. Why did you stay over at Leeteuk hyung’s? It was a school night. You usually don’t do that unless you’re upset. Is something bothering you? Here’s a little something to make you feel better.” Kangin unwrapped the gift to find a music note necklace inside. “I know how much you love music. I hope you wear this and think of me.” The three of them stared at the necklace. Ryeowook tentatively reached out a hand. Kangin placed the necklace in his hand. Ryeowook just stared at it. I didn’t know what to do now. I glanced at Kangin who was no help. I sighed and look at Ryeowook.
“What are you going to do now, Wookie-ah?”
“I don’t know. He knows too much about me. I don’t feel safe.” Ryeowook clung onto me. I glanced helplessly at Kangin who just shrugged at me.
“Would you feel better if Kangin was your bodyguard?”
“BODYGUARD?!?! Why would he need a bodyguard?” I just looked at Kangin, telling him to be quiet.
“*sniff**sniff* Uh huh.” Ryeowook nodded his head cutely. “I’d feel better and safer. The last couple of days, I’ve gotten the feeling that someone’s been watching me. It’s creepy and scares me.”
“WHAT? SOMEONE’S ACTUALLY STALKING YOU NOW!?!?!?!” I blew up. “When I get my hands on that person, I am going to-” Kangin grabbed a hold of me.
“Calm down. Don’t get so worked up. We need to worry about Ryeowook right now first before we start chasing down anybody.”
“Alright. You watch over Ryeowook while I try and figure this out.”
Kangin walked away with Ryeowook. I just stood there, watching them leave. Kangin turned back around once to look at me. I just waved him away. Once they were out of sight, I went in search of someone.
I finally found him on the roof with a pair of binoculars. I glanced over the side and saw Kangin and Ryeowook walking out the gate.
“Hello, what brings you here?”
“How long is this going to last? Wookie’s getting freaked out.”
“Just bear with it for another week.”
“Alright if you say so. I wouldn’t even let you do this if it wasn’t for…”
“For what?” He turned to look at me.
“Just forget it. I’ll see you later.”
Leeteuk had just gotten home when his cell phone rang. He glanced at it and saw it was Ryeowook.
“Yes? Is something wrong?”
“I-I-I got another note. *sniff**sniff* and it was in my room on my bed next to another present.”
“Alright, just calm down. What does the note say?”
“It says the same thing it always does.”
“Okay. Did you open the gift?”
“Uh…I’ll do it right now.” I heard paper rustling and a gasp. “It’s-it’s-it’s-”
“What is it?”
“I can’t believe it. How did he know? I’ve been wanting this for like ever.”
“Wookie? Hello? What was the gift?”
“I’m sorry hyung but I’ll call you later.” I heard the dial tone. I just shook my head. He’ll tell me about it tomorrow.
The same thing kept happening for the rest of the week. Ryeowook would call, telling me he left a note and a gift, but each time he went to unwrap the gift he’d become so speechless, he hangs up. And each day, the gift got bigger and bigger. Kangin got so annoyed, he finally said something.
“This has got to stop.”
“I’m starting to get used to it.” Ryeowook blushed when Kangin and I glanced his way. “I like the things he sends me. Some of them I need and some I really wanted but couldn’t get.”
“But isn’t this all a little strange and weird to you? You don’t even know this person. He’s some creepy stalker guy and you’re accepting any gift he gives you.”
“I’m sorry, Kangin hyung. I can return the gifts if you want.”
“Do you even know where to return them?”
“Yes because he leaves me the receipt saying if I don’t want it, I am allowed to return it.” Ryeowook blushed. Kangin and I stared.
“You’re starting to develop some feelings for this person, aren’t you?” I couldn’t believe it.
“I-I…well he gives me gifts. He knows exactly what I want.”
“Well DUH!! He’s your freakin’ stalker!” Ryeowook cowered and hid behind me. I just looked at Kangin and sighed before wrapping my arm around Ryeowook.
“Kangin, don’t yell at Ryeowook. Now Ryeowook, about this stalker guy, you really shouldn’t get attached to him. You only like him because of the gifts. And you should return those gifts as well.”
Ryeowook sighed. “Alright umma. I’ll return them.”
Kangin laughed. “He called you umma.” Kangin fell to the ground laughing. I just glared at him, putting my hands on my hips. He can be so immature sometimes. That only made Kangin laugh harder. I just shook my head and ignored him. I’ll deal with him later.
“So will you still be needing Kangin as a bodyguard or do you feel comfortable by yourself?”
“Can hyung stay with me still? I like having him around. He’s a giant teddy bear. Besides he keeps me safe. I haven’t gotten the feeling someone’s been watching me for a while now.”
“Alright. I’ll see you two tomorrow. It’s your birthday, so let’s do something special.”
“Alright hyung.” Ryeowook waved. I smiled and walked away. As I turned the corner, I felt my phone vibrate. I checked my phone and made my way to the rooftop.
As soon as I got on the roof, I saw Sungmin, Eunhyuk, Donghae, and Hankyung already waiting.
“Is this some kind of meeting?”
“I think so. Now where is he? He’s late and he’s the one that called this.”
“I’m right here.” Everyone turned around. “I was busy doing something.”
“So why’d you call all of us here?”
“I need your help for tomorrow.”
The five of us arrived at school and waited by Ryeowook’s locker. He finally appeared with Kangin.
“Happy Birthday Wookie!”
Ryeowook smiled. “Thank you so much.”
“Here you go Wookie.” I handed him the cake I was holding.
“Here are your presents from all of us.”
“Thank you. Can you hold this for a moment? I need to open my locker.” As soon as Ryeowook opened up his locker, a rose fell out with a small note attached. Everyone just stared at the rose on the ground then back at Ryeowook.
“What’s going on?”
“Ooo…Ryeowook’s got a secret admirer.” Ryeowook blushed and picked up the rose and note.
“Look inside your bag.” Ryeowook opened his bag. Inside was a rose with another note.
“WHOA! How did that get in there? Didn’t you just get here?”
“It must’ve been aliens.” Everyone looked at Donghae. “What?” They disregarded him and turned back to Ryeowook.
“Follow the trail.” Ryeowook looked around and spotted a trail of roses not too far from where they were.
“WHOA! When did that get there? Seriously is this person some kind of ninja?” Eunhyuk and Donghae were freaking out.
“Wow…this guy is romantic.” Sungmin just smiled and started to daydream. “I wish my boyfriend could be like that.”
“You don’t even have a boyfriend.”
“Not yet but I will.” Sungmin looked at Ryeowook who was frozen there. “Well? What are you waiting for? Follow it dummy. You know you want to.”
“I-I-I don’t know…”
“Well…because…” Ryeowook handed the note over to me. I made my eyes widened and showed it to Kangin.
“Because it’s from his crazy creepy stalker.” Everyone stared at Kangin then at Ryeowook who had hid behind me.
“Since when did you have a crazy creepy stalker?”
“Uh…for a while now…about 2 months maybe…” Ryeowook gave a sheepish smile.
“WHAT?!?!?!? AND YOU NEVER TOLD ME ABOUT THIS!?!?!?!” Ryeowook cowered behind Kangin and me.
“Sungmin, you’re scaring poor Ryeowook.” Sungmin calmed down a little.
“Sorry, Wookie-ah but why didn’t you tell me? I thought we were best friends.”
“I’m sorry but I thought Leeteuk hyung would be able to help.”
“Oh, okay that’s alright then. So what are you going to do now?” Sungmin stared at Ryeowook.
“I-I-I don’t know…”
Sungmin sighed. “Just follow the trail. See what it leads to. It can’t hurt. Besides, you might find out the identity of your crazy creepy stalker. Once you do, you can either accept him or get a restraining order.” Everyone stared at Sungmin. “What?”
“Alright fine, I’ll go. There’s no harm right? He wouldn’t try to do something on my birthday, would he?” Everyone shook their heads. We watched Ryeowook follow the trail of roses. Once he was out of sight, we raced to the roof.
“I can’t believe it!”
“I know. Aren’t we such great actors?”
“It’s more like he doesn’t really care.”
“Hey! Don’t burst my bubble.” Sungmin pouted.
“Shh, be quiet. I think someone’s coming.” We all hid and watched as Ryeowook came up and saw the set up.
I felt so bad for him, sitting there and eating alone. “Where the hell is Yesung? Why is he leaving Ryeowook all alone like that?” I hissed.
“Shh, it’s all part of the plan.” We gasped. Since when was Yesung hiding with us?
“When did you get here?”
“I’ve always been here. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have a present to deliver.” We watched as Yesung picked up a huge present and walked over to Ryeowook.
“Aww that’s so sweet.”
“Finally, he’s got a boyfriend.”
“Yeah, that took forever. Why couldn’t he just come out and confess? Why go through all this trouble? It’s bad enough we got dragged into this.”
“Yeah. Oh by the way, I was wondering something.” Eunhyuk looked at Leeteuk and Kangin. “How did you two manage to keep this a secret from him for so long? Normally you two would be the first ones to spill the news.”
“Hey! We can keep secrets if it’s for a good cause and this qualified.”
“Fine, whatever.” Eunhyuk turned away, effectively ignoring his hyungs, along with everyone else.
“Hey, don’t just ignore us. We’re your hyungs. Hey! HEY!”
“Shhh be quiet. They don’t know we’re up here.” Sungmin shushed them and turned back to watch the happy couple. I glanced around. I squinted my eyes.
“Hey Kangin, do you see something over there?” I pointed to a spot not too far from us.
“Huh? What?” He looked over. “You’re just imagining things.”
“Hmm…I’m sure you’re right.” We both turned back to watch Yesung and Ryeowook, completely missing the sets of eyes observing us.
